Celebrating the 91st birthday of our favourite Disney cartoon character and icon of the animation industry Mickey Mouse on 18th November. Happy Birthday Mickey Mouse!! Big eyes, white gloves, pert little nose, red shorts, and large yellow shoes, Mickey ‘The mascot of the Walt Disney Company’ has been the most appealing and the most recognizable animated character till today. Mickey Mouse kids’ favourite cartoon character Mickey turns 91.

Let’ know all about mickey mouse. Sketched by animator UB Iwerks, Mickey Mouse has made us laugh with his distinctive voice and humorous ways since his creation. Indeed, we’ve loved the character so much that the market is full of Mickey’s plush toys, figurines, Disney parks, video games, watches and clocks, tee shirts, statement credit cards, backpacks, etc.

Our favorite animated character went through several variations from a floppy-eared bunny named Oswald to a mouse named Mortimer, and then to a squeaky-voiced rodent, Mickey came to life in Walt Disney’s first debut of Mickey Mouse at the Colony Theatre in New York in a film called Streamboat Willie. He failed to leave an impression on the audience in its appearance in the first two short animated films but on November 18, 1928, he won the hearts of the audience and instantly became an enormous hit.

Mickey Mouse Walt Disney first animated character spoke for the first time in The Karnival Kid in 1929 and was first animated in colour in the Parade of the Award Nominees in 1932 created for the 5th Academy awards ceremony. He was officially presented in colours in 1935 in the film The Band Concert. The first Disney theme park Disneyland opened in 1955 in South California. Within 10 years of his creation, Mickey appeared in animated shorts played in theatres, in newspaper comic strips, in-merchandise, and as a character float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (Macy’s Santa Claus Parade). On his 50th birthday, Mickey was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame – the first of its characters to get one!! Almost 10 of Mickey’s cartoons were nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film including Mickey’s Orphans, Building a Building, Brave Little Tailor, The Pointer, Lend a Paw, Squatter’s rights, Mickey and the Seal, Mickey’s Christmas Carol, Runaway Brain and Get a Horse.

After Mickey Mouse kids' favorite cartoon characters, several other animated cartoon characters were created to amuse the audience. But the charm of Mickey plays a different kind of magic. Even after so many years, Mickey Mouse kids cartoon still remains everyone’s favorite and the most relishing memory of our childhood. It is he who brings Disney to life and connects with people in new ways. He still brings a smile on the face and joy in the hearts. Walt Disney expressed his love for Mickey when he said “It is understandable that I should have sentimental attachment for the little personage who played so big a part in the course of Disney Productions and has been so happily accepted as an amusing friend wherever films are shown.”
