MIPCOM: The Best Platform to Showcase Entertainment Content
The world’s largest entertainment content market, MIPCOM that took place from 14th-17th October 2019 in Cannes (France) saw an overwhelming Indian presence. It is the biggest platform that connects producers, creators, distributors, studios, independent production companies, and investors. Over 95 companies representing the Indian media and entertainment sector participated in the event. The event showcased an India Pavilion in which 32 companies took part. Some of the prominent ones amongst them were Star India, ZEEL, Viacom18/IndiaCast, Disney India, Shemaroo Entertainment, Green Gold Animation, GoQuest Media, The Viral Fever (TVF) and Amazon Prime Video India.

MIPCOM – The World’s largest entertainment content market gave us the platform to build relationships with prospective buyers, sellers, and partners. Prismart Productions could pitch its dream project ANU: Origin of Existence in the event. ANU is the story of a son and mother’s yearning to unite, of the victory of righteousness over evil, of scientific discoveries and inventions and so much more. We were extremely overwhelmed to receive such great response for ANU in the Mipcom event. Another of our new concept RAMA: The Savior also evoked such an enormous response that left us astounded. MIPCOM enabled the companies to showcase their brand new shows in the market and meet potential partner for co-production. Shemaroo Entertainment CEO Hiren Gada said that MIPCOM gave the company a great platform to showcase its strengths. It helped them present content from their vast library including Bollywood classics, regional, comedy, music shows, and lifestyle. Many companies like the Viral Fever and GoQuest Media Ventures seemingly looked interested in acquiring content at this year’s Mipcom. GoQuest Media also showcased two new crime dramas namely, Paper Pusher and The Policeman’s Wife and Ruby Ring, a series based on a Korean format.
Zee Global Content Sales showcased a line-up of Family Dramas, Documentary & Travelogues, and Health & Wellness content at MIPCOM at the booth number P-1, K51. Zee also showed Hindi and regional movies from India’s Oscar selection list including the final Oscar entry from India: ‘Gully Boy’. The slate comprised of three family dramas namely Kundali Bhagya (Destined Love), Tujhse Hai Raabta (Cosmic Connection), and Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega (The Relationship Conundrum), Deceptive Measures, a remake of the popular Indian series Pavitra Rishta, one of the most successful ever Indian drama series. Besides this, Zee also showcased two renowned Health and Wellness shows – Altar’d and Finding Fido; a feature documentary and travelogue series entitled ‘The Life of Earth from Space’.The movie collection included Article 15 (Hindi), Kesari (Hindi), Gully Boy (Hindi) and Anandi Gopal (Marathi). Apart from these, the list included Raazi, Manikarnika, Dream Girl, and Dolly Kitty Aur Who Chamakte Sitare, Kolamavu Kokila (Coco in Tamil) and Madhura Raja (Malayalam).
Viacom18/IndiaCast Media Distribution launched a series of new programmes this year including Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush (Sons of Lord Ram & Sita) and Vidya (The Accidental English Teacher). One of the major highlights of Green Gold Animation’s slate at MipJunior, which took place before Mipcom, was ‘Mighty Little Bheem’. In the 3D series of Chhota Bheem Kung Fu Dhamaka, Bheem and his friends embark on a high-stake journey across China. The first two seasons of Mighty Little Bheem received tremendous response from the viewership across the U.S, Mexico, Brazil, and other territories. The company also showcased Jungle Trouble, a show centered on a crew of jungle animals as they try to save their homes. The show offers fun and lighthearted take on a universal dilemma of progress versus cost. MIPCOM enabled the companies to showcase their brand new shows in the market and meet a potential partner for co-production. According to the report, the Indian Pavilion at MIPCOM, organized by the state-owned Council (SEPC) and partly funded by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, provides a major platform to large and small companies to meet international buyers and partners. The number of participating companies in the Indian Pavilion (MIPCOM) rose to 60 as compared to 37 delegates in the previous year.
Indian companies are known for their quality services of subtitling and VFX in the international market. This year MIPCOM saw it’s first-ever India IP Guide through SEPC. Entrepreneurs said that securing a MIPCOM booth has been benefitting for their business. Some of the deals signed in MIPCOM include The Great Indian Global Kitchen (240*30 min.) to a U.S. Company. Besides this, SEPC also aimed at liaising with the pavilions of another country that might want to see domestic creativity of India.
Indian Entertainment and educational specialist Aadarsh successfully promoted his new kids' show, other creative projects including a biopic of his company’s vice-president. The Kids show will be for the children aged between two to four years and a total number of 52 episodes will be there in Season 1. The series has brought numerous partners to Aadarsh, award-winning writers including Dev Ross and Karl Geurs. Aadarsh is also working on the biopic of his executive producer, Ankita Shrivastava, an athlete, blogger, and TEDx Speaker.
